With all of the advancements in technology, it has made accessing interactive pieces of technology a lot easier. There is a multitude of apps out there that allow for a person to gain experience they may not get otherwise. With new technology, a person can experience anything from exploring the rainforest to dissecting a human body. Mixing the technology with the experience helps to create a richer experience for the learner.
Universal Design and Technology
Universal Design and technology mix together really well. Many pieces of technology today come with universal access features designed into them. For example, Apple products feature many built-in features that make them accessible to everyone. When choosing pieces of technology to use for a learning experience, consider using ones with accessibility features already built in.
Incorporating Universal Design into Instructional Methods
It is important to remember to incorporate the principles of universal design when mixing methods. For example when using different pieces of technology make sure they are compatible with assistive technologies. When using experiential learning in conjunction with a physical activity make sure that the specific activity can be adapted to those with mobility impairments.
