Assessment Plan

I created the following assessment plan to assess the learning objectives for the first goal of the program.

Goal 1:

Students will be able to engage in the interactive process of requesting accommodations each semester.

Assessment Strategy 1

Objectives to assess:

  • Students will demonstrate their ability to engage in the accommodation process by successfully following all the parts of the set procedure for requesting accommodations each semester they wish to use accommodations.
  • Students will demonstrate their knowledge of their responsibilities in the interactive process by communicating with their accommodations specialist at least once a semester either in person, over the phone, through email, or via an accommodations request form.
Assessment Plan:

These two objectives will be assessed simultaneously because while they are separate objectives they interact with each other. Communicating with an accommodation specialist is part of the set process for requesting accommodations.

These objects will not be assessed until the semester after the students have participated in the workshops. To assess these objectives one of the accommodations specialists will use a list of workshop participants and check in our office management system to see if the student has contacted our office and begun the process for requesting accommodations for the new semester. They will also check to see if there has been a point of contact between each student and their accommodations specialist. This assessment will happen during the third or fourth week of the semester.

Assessment Strategy 2

Objective To Assess:

  • Students will demonstrate their ability to engage in the interactive accommodation process by giving their letters of accommodation to their instructors each semester.
Assessment Plan:

This objective is hard to assess because we as an office have no way of knowing if a student has given their letters of accommodation to their instructors unless the instructors tell us. It is the student’s responsibility to give these letters to their instructors because without the letter instructors do not have to provide accommodations to a student. However, instructors do not always follow this rule, and thusly students do not always give their letters to their instructors.

To assess this objective will also be assessed during the semester after the students have participated in the workshops. A brief survey will be sent out to students during the third or fourth week of the semester. This survey is meant to act as a check in with students. One of the questions on the survey would say, “Did you give your letters of accommodation to your instructors?”. The responses collected from this question will help assess whether or not students are giving their letters to their instructors.
